Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Finland were established on 30 March 1992. This marked the beginning of official relations between the two countries during the early years following Uzbekistan’s independence.
Since the 1990s, relations between the two countries have developed across political, economic and cultural spheres. Finland became one of the European countries that supported Uzbekistan’s independence and territorial integrity.
During the 2000s and 2010s, increasing attention was given to trade and economic cooperation, as well as education, innovation, environmental protection and technology. Finland’s advanced education system and digital technologies were regarded as valuable and relevant areas of experience for Uzbekistan.
In 2019, the visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Finland became one of the significant milestones in the development of bilateral relations. During the visit, the two sides discussed expanding political and economic cooperation and developing relations in the areas of investment, trade and innovation.
In recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and Finland has continued to develop in areas such as education, the green economy, energy, digitalization, innovation and trade. The two countries also engage in indirect cooperation within the framework of Uzbekistan’s developing relations with the European Union.
